How to build a studded wall: preparation 

Before you start building your studded wall, it’s best to prepare by considering a few factors. Check the wall space for any loose cables, wires or pipes. Collect your materials 

For a wall that’s long-lasting, you will need high-quality materials such as timber and plasterboard. Stud wall timber size relies on a few factors. It’s best to measure the height of the wall before getting started, as this will help you determine which size of timber to use. How to build a studded wall 

Before you follow the steps below, use the stud finder to find and mark any studs on the walls you’re fastening your new wall to. This will help you fit your new wall in place without issue.

  • Fit the ceiling plate 
    In order to do this, place the timber into position and secure it with cross-head screws. 
  • Fit the floor plate 
    This is relatively straightforward as long as the timber is cut to the size you need. Simply fit it into position and nail the timber into the floor. 
  • Fit the vertical studs
    Do this at equal intervals for maximum support. 
  • Integrate cables or plumping 
    If you need to install cables or pipework, ensure you have a professional on hand to help as this can be dangerous and intricate. 
  • Fit plasterboard 
    Once your stud wall is built, you can plasterboard over the area and viola!
