What is foul water drainage?

Put simply, foul drainage is the system of pipework that carries wastewater away from a bathroom, kitchen, or utility room. For all properties connected to mains drainage, foul sewers will eventually transfer the contents of the drainage system to a local sewage treatment plant.

What is surface water drainage?

Surface water drains are used to carry away rainwater from gutters, patios, driveways, roads, and sports fields.

The use of lime and cement for ground stabilisation and soil improvement is a well-established technique in the UK. This technique is proven to be effective in providing cost-efficient, high-performance capping layers for highways, piling platforms, temporary haul roads, and compounds.

Soil treatment has been widely practiced in the UK since the 1970s for road and airport construction. It is also commonly employed in road and pavement construction globally. Additionally, lime and cement are utilized for various purposes including:

- Creating temporary access roads and haul roads for construction sites such as wind farms and cross-country pipelines.
- Building car parks and truck parking areas.
- Constructing airport runways and taxiways.
- Developing industrial building floor slabs.
- Reclaiming and remediating contaminated sites.

Soil treatment binders are applied to enhance the properties of soft, wet soils with low shear strength and bearing capacity. After treatment, these soils become suitable as sub-base materials for road and pavement construction. Rather than being transported off-site to tips, these soils can be utilized on-site.

Gas Barrier DPC is a multi-layer reinforced polyethylene gas barrier with a 20-micron aluminum foil.

Liquid Gas Membrane is a blue-gray, single-component, liquid-applied polymer-modified emulsion that dries to form a black flexible damp-proof, gas-proof, and waterproof membrane.

Apart from any potential demolition or site enabling works, groundworks mainly entail ground investigation, site clearance, installation of footings and foundations, along with the provision of drainage, cabling, and utilities such as fiber optic cables, telephone lines, and gas pipes.

Lastly, groundworks also involve landscaping.

Linear drainage systems refer to those that drain continuously along their entire length, instead of at a specific point like a gully. Most of these systems are different versions of an enclosed channel, typically with a u-shaped cross-section and some form of grating on top.

Hard landscaping usually refers to elements like paths, driveways, drainage systems, electricals, fencing, decking, patios, steps, and walls.

These elements then form the foundation for soft landscaping components like grass, plants, and vegetation.
