Cavity Stop Socks

(2 Items)

Cavity stop socks are manufactured using non-combustible rock fibre mineral wool, offering unrelenting protection and support. These strips of low-resin blocks stop the spread of fire by acting as a cavity barrier in masonry walls, concrete, and brickwork. When installed, they improve the safety of any building, making them essential for terraced and semi-detached homes, apartments, and major construction projects where fire safety is a concern.

They get their name from their “sock” shape (usually in 1.2m lengths) and are perfectly sized to fill gaps between inner blockwork and outer brickwork. The design and material composition of cavity socks restrict the spread of smoke and flames within timber-framed and external masonry walls. You’ll often find them used in densely built residential areas or commercial complexes.

What makes these different from other cavity barriers is their installation method. Many are designed to be compression-fitted as the brick and blockwork go up, with no mechanical fixing required. The slight oversize creates friction and holds the barrier firmly in place.

Cavity stop socks fill the space so no gaps are left, stopping the possibility of smoke or hot gases finding their way through the wall. Capable of withstanding high temperatures, cavity fire socks are designed to meet stringent fire safety and building regulations, including Robust Detail, Approved Document B, and NHBC Standards.

Besides fire safety, they also have acoustic properties, since the mineral wool stops sounds from travelling through the wall. Plus, they also protect properties against mould, bacteria, fungi, and even vermin!
